Resources are essential for your community's survival in State of Decay 2.

About Resources[]

There are 9 Resources: Food, Meds, Ammo, Materials, Fuel, Population, Scrap, Influence, and Prestige,

Resources are used daily by your community at Home Sites to keep survivors fed, heal the wounded and create consumables, provide ammunition and siege defense, build facilities and craft items, and to keep vehicles fueled. They can also be traded or demanded for by Enclaves. It is advised to keep Resources well stocked and have a steady flow of new resources.

There are 6 ways to gather Resources: Looting, Trading, Crafting, Locating, Outposts, and completing Missions.

Resources are found in Rucksacks while looting or sometimes as a reward for helping survivors. The player can carry 1 rucksack, and may stash multiple in the storage of Vehicles. The Rucksacks must be deposited directly into the Storage facility at the home site or from the storage of the Vehicle parked in the Parking facility. Once deposited, the rucksack is consumed and the intended resource is added to the base community storage depending on the value of the Rucksack.

Players can produce their own Resources at facilities, such as growing Food with a Garden or crafting Materials in the Forge for example. Resources which are crafted in facilities are automatically added to the Storage.

Outposts can also be established in certain resource providing locations to provide a daily income, such as a Food Outpost at a Restaurant, Meds Outpost at a Clinic, Ammo Outpost at a Gun store and so on. Since Update 25, resource providing outposts can now be upgraded to a maximum of Level 3. Aside from Food Outpost which scales its output according to community difficulty, every Level 3 outpost can provide +3 resources each day.

Note: Breaking open rucksacks will not give you any resources!

Food[]

Icon Food

Food is your most important resource. Each survivor eats one food every day (1.5 per day in Nightmare Zone, 2 per day in Lethal Zone) by default, but certain Traits and Hero Bonuses can decrease, or even increase the amount they'll eat. If there is a Food shortage, your survivors will start starving, resulting in Stamina and Morale penalties.

Other than keeping your community well-fed, it can also be used for preparing feasts for a boost in stamina and morale, or crafting Stamina-restoring consumables in the Kitchen.

Food can be crafted in the Kitchen and grown in Gardens, Farms and Hydroponics. In Heartland it can be crafted in the Basic Kitchen and can also be grown in the Farming Complex.

Locations which may contain Food:

Meds[]

Icon Meds

Meds are also an important Resource for your day-to-day survival. Injuries are inevitable when you're out scavenging and you need something to help your recovery. They are required for keeping your Infirmary running.

They can also be used for crafting Health-restoring consumables and Plague Cures in the Infirmary and Field Hospital, and for healing your active survivor from injuries.

Meds can be crafted in the Infirmary and Field Hospital, and grown in Gardens, Farms and Hydroponics. In Heartland they can be crafted in the Medical Tent and can also be grown in the Farming Complex (level 3 required).

Locations which may contain Meds:

Ammo[]

Icon Ammo

Ammo is required for the safety of your community. The ammo resource has no relation with the number of rounds you have stored in your Locker. Ammo is required to upkeep your survivors' guard duty on Watchtowers.

You can also use ammo to craft rounds for your guns and explosives in your Workshop, Armory, Storage, and Red Talon Workshop. 3 Ammo will be used up if the player doesn't return home during a zombie siege.

Ammo can be crafted in the Workshop, Armory, and Red Talon Workshop. In Heartland it can be crafted in the Demolitions Lab and Outlaw Chem Lab.

Locations which may contain Ammo:

Materials[]

Icon Materials

Materials are mainly used for building and upgrading your facilities. It's also required for maintaining some of them. If you run out of materials, your facilities will start breaking down.

You can use materials to make parts in the Storage and Forge for maintaining your weapons. With a CNC Mill Facility Mod it can also be made in the Workshop. It is also needed for crafting some items.

Materials can be crafted in the Forge.

Locations which may contain Materials:

Fuel[]

Icon Fuel

Fuel is more like a luxury than a necessity. It is mainly required for crafting Gas Cans to refuel your Vehicles. Your community might complain about having no fuel, but it won't bring down the morale.

It can also be used for crafting Incendiaries such as Molotov and Fuel Bombs.

Fuel can be crafted in Stills. In Heartland the Fuel Extractor provides you with 4 Fuel per day.

Locations which may contain Fuel:

Population[]

Population is the amount of survivors in your Home Site. Depending on the Skills of the members of your community, they make up your labor. This resource is the most precious to maintain, having affects to all of your community members if this resource diminishes.

Death is permanent. Losing all of your population ends the game.

Population can be gained through the recruitment of survivors, which is achievable in various ways.

Scrap[]

Scrap is salvage collected from most loot sources and the recycling of items or resources. Scrap is used in countless recipes and is a vital resource to success.

Scrap, like resource rucksacks, can take physical space in containers and inventories, though it is not limited exclusively to the rucksack slot of the player inventory.

Scrap can have a generous surplus with a maximum capacity of 10,000 Scrap.

Influence[]

Influence is the resource and currency used in trade and Radio commands. Influence can be gained through various means, though nearly all means are by eliminating the undead.

Depositing rucksacks at your Home Site serves as a method of gaining influence without killing zombies.

Influence is important and necessary to thrive, though you can possibly survive without it.

Prestige[]

Prestige is a currency, much like Influence is, but this is earned through playing the Daybreak DLC. Prestige allows you to purchase Daybreak-related assets and items in the main game, such as items unlocked through Daybreak (available through Prestige Traders), calling in Red Talon Contractors, crafting Daybreak items, CLEO abilities.

Prestige is gained specifically through killing Freaks, completing waves and winning Daybreak matches.

Prestige is not necessary for survival but makes it more likely.

Tips[]

  • Players can withdraw resource Rucksacks from the Storage.
  • If you exceed your Storage capacity your surplus resources will become wasted or broken. To avoid that, Vehicles can be used as an external Storage for Rucksacks.
