Survivors in Need are a type of Ambient Goals.

About Survivors in Need

Ambient Goals are usually short and easy missions which appear randomly. Ignoring or refusing them will not have any consequences, however some of them can reward you with valuable items, rucksacks, or new recruits if you complete them.

Survivor in Need missions task you with helping out survivors. Even Red Talon or The Network can ask for your help through these missions. They can reward you with rucksacks, rare items, and earn you recruits.

We gave unique names for each mission to make them more distinguishable, however in the game they're all called as Survivor in Need.

A call from Red Talon (Infestation)

A Red Talon Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive, they tell you the following:

I'm in town to deal with infestations. Mind providing some backup for me?

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the Agent will start following you. After you clear out the infestation, the Agent rewards you for your help. Your reward will be one of the following:

After you receive your reward, the mission ends and the Agent leaves the area.

Note: Before you'd claim your prize, you can trade with the Agent.

A call from Red Talon (Plague Heart)

A Red Talon Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive to their location you notice that a bunch of zombies are attacking them. Your first task is to clear out the zombies from the location. After the location is clear, the Agent tells you the following:

I've been sent to deal with some plague hearts. Since this is your town, you want in?

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the Agent will start following you. After you destroy the Plague Heart, the Agent rewards you for your help. Your reward will be one of the following:

After you receive your reward, the mission ends and the Agent leaves the area.

Note: Before you'd claim your prize, you can trade with the Agent.

A call from Red Talon (Rescue)

A Red Talon Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive to their location you notice that a bunch of zombies are attacking them. Your first task is to clear out the zombies from the location. After the location is clear, the Agent tells you the following:

I've got two soldiers stranded at a location. I could use backup extracting them.

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the Agent will start following you. As you arrive to the location, the soldiers are under attack by zombies. After clearing the zeds out you find one of the soldiers dead. Despite the loss, the Agent rewards you with one of the following items:

The mission ends afterwards and they leave the area.

Notes:

  • You can also get some nice items if you loot the dead Red Talon soldier's body.
  • Before you'd claim your prize, you can trade with the Agent.

A call from Red Talon (Scavenge)

A Red Talon Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive to their location you notice that a bunch of zombies are attacking them. Your first task is to clear out the zombies from the location. After the location is clear, the Agent tells you the following:

I've been assigned to acquire high-value items from a location. Can you back me up?

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the Agent will start following you. When you arrive, you have to speak with the Agent to begin the search. You get another chance to change your mind here to cancel the mission. After you talked to them, you have to defend them for 2 minutes until they find what they're looking for. As the timer reaches zero, the zombies stop coming in and the Agent rewards you for your help. Your reward will be one of the following:

After you receive your reward, the mission ends and the Agent leaves the area.

Note: Before you'd claim your prize, you can trade with the Agent.

A call from Red Talon (Too Late)

A Red Talon Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive to their location you notice that a bunch of zombies are at their location. As you're fighting the zombies you notice that the Agent is either dead or reanimated. After you kill them, looting their body can earn you some of the following items:

They'll also have a Patrol Journal Entry and some other loot on them.

A call from The Network (Hostiles)

A Network Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive, they tell you the following:

I've been sent to deal with a hostile enclave. They've been roughing up some of our friends. You in?

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the Agent will start following you. After you eliminate the hostile survivors, the Agent rewards you with a Lichenology Textbook or a Trumbull Gatekeeper. After you receive your reward, the mission ends and the Agent leaves the area.

Note: Before you'd claim your prize, you can trade with the Agent.

A call from The Network (Rescue)

A Network Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive, they tell you the following:

A couple of my Network buddies went dark at a nearby location. I could use some help getting to them.

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the Agent will start following you. As you arrive to the location, the Network members are under attack by zombies. After clearing the zeds out, the Agent rewards you for your help. Your reward will be one of the following:

  • Danforth Slugger
  • Network Guide to Eating Right (Luxury Item)
  • Network Guide to Field Medicine (Luxury Item)
  • Trumbull Gatekeeper

After you receive your reward, the mission ends and the Agent leaves the area.

Note: Before you'd claim your prize, you can trade with the Agent.

A call from The Network (Scavenge)

A Network Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive to their location you notice that a bunch of zombies are attacking them. Your first task is to clear out the zombies from the location. After the location is clear, the Agent tells you the following:

I need to scavenge some high-value items from a location. Could you watch my back?

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the Agent will start following you. When you arrive, you have to speak with the Agent to begin the search. You get another chance to change your mind here to cancel the mission. After you talked to them, you have to defend them for 2 minutes until they find what they're looking for. As the timer reaches zero, the zombies stop coming in and the Agent rewards you for your help. Your reward will be one of the following:

  • Danforth Slugger
  • 2x Lichenology Textbooks
  • 2x Network Guide to Cohabitation (Luxury Item)
  • 2x Network Guide to Eating Right (Luxury Item)
  • 2x Network Guide to Field Medicine (Luxury Item)
  • 2x Network Guide to Vehicle Care (Luxury Item)
  • Trumbull Gatekeeper

After you receive your reward, the mission ends and the Agent leaves the area.

A call from The Network (Too Late)

A Network Agent asks for help through the radio and tells you that it's urgent. As you arrive to their location you notice that a bunch of zombies are at their location. After killing the zombies you find the Agent dead. Looting their body can earn you some of the following items:

... and some other loot.

Arriving Late (Enclave)

A survivor calls for help through the radio. As you arrive to their location, you notice that an enclave is overwhelmed by zombies and they reanimate as they die to them. After clearing out the location the mission ends. You can loot their bodies as a reward. One of the bodies might also have a rare gun on them.

Arriving Late (Survivor)

A survivor calls for help through the radio. As you arrive to their location, you notice zombies around. After clearing out the location you find out that the survivor calling for help is dead. You can loot their body for some common items as a reward

Destroying a Plague Heart (A)

A survivor calls for your help through the radio. When you arrive, you notice that they're trying to destroy a Plague Heart. Your task is to help them eliminating it. After you destroy it, they reward you with a rucksack. The mission ends afterwards.

Destroying a Plague Heart (B)

A survivor calls for your help through the radio. When you arrive, you notice that they're trying to destroy a Plague Heart, however they already have Blood Plague. Your task is to help them eliminating it. After you destroy it, you have the following options:

  • You can give them a cure (if you have one on you), or
  • you can offer to give them one.

If you cured them, they will give you a rucksack as a reward.

If you offered to cure them, they will start following you. After you get a cure, you can refuse to help them, thus ending the mission without a reward, or you can give it to them, rewarding you with a rucksack.

Hostiles in Need

A hostile Enclave calls for help through the radio. One of your community members will dislike the idea to help them.

As you arrive to the Enclave's location, you notice that they're overwhelmed by zombies and they reanimate as they die to them. After clearing out the location the mission ends. You can loot their bodies as a reward.

Tip: In case you ignore this mission, the hostile Enclave will stay on the map after the mission disappears. If dealing with hostile survivors is a struggle for you, you should try to complete it before the mission expires.

Your survivor's thoughts during the mission:

  • Clearing out their location: I guess they're all dead. We weren't friendly, but nobody deserves to go out like that.

Injured Survivor

A survivor calls for help through the radio. As you arrive they tell you the following:

I'm in really bad shape. Please, do you have something that can help?

  • You can refuse to help them, thus cancelling the mission,
  • you can give them a Bottle of Painkillers if you have any on you, or
  • you can offer to get some for them.

If you offered to help, your task is to bring Painkillers for them. Traveling to the marked location and looting it guarantees you to find one, however finding on anywhere else or picking one up from your Locker will also suffice. After you give them Painkillers, they might ask to join your group. If not, they'll reward you with one of the following:

Lost Survivor (A)

A survivor calls for help through the radio. As you arrive they tell you the following:

I got separated from my group. Could you help me get to our meetup spot?

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the survivor will start following you. When you arrive to the meeting spot, the rest of their group will be under attack by zombies. After you clear the zombies out, you'll get a rucksack as a reward. The mission ends and the group leaves the area.

Lost Survivor (B)

A survivor calls for help through the radio. As you arrive they tell you the following:

I got separated from my group. Could you help me get to our meetup spot?

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the survivor will start following you. When you arrive to the meeting spot, the location will be infested and the group members dead. After you clear the zombies out, the survivor might ask to join your community.

Lost Survivor (C)

A survivor calls for help through the radio. As you arrive they tell you the following:

I got separated from my group. Could you help me get to our meetup spot?

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the survivor will start following you. When you arrive to the meeting spot, the location will be filled with zombies and the group members are nowhere to be found. After you clear the zombies out, the survivor might ask to join your community.

Searching for a Child (A)

A survivor asks for help through the radio. As you arrive they tell you the following:

I've been trying to find my son/daughter since we got separated escaping a refugee camp. I've tracked him/her so far, but I could really use some help.

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the survivor will start following you. When you arrive to the son's/daughter's location, there will be zombies around. You'll also discover that the son/daughter died. After you console the survivor for their loss, they give you a Treat Luxury Item. The mission ends and they leave the area.

Searching for a Child (B)

A survivor asks for help through the radio. As you arrive they tell you the following:

I've been trying to find my son/daughter since we got separated escaping a refugee camp. I've tracked him/her so far, but I could really use some help.

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the survivor will start following you. When you arrive to the son's/daughter's location, there will be hostile group around. You'll also discover that the son/daughter has been killed. After you console the survivor for their loss, they give you a Treat Luxury Item. The mission ends and they leave the area.

Searching for a Child (C)

A survivor asks for help through the radio. As you arrive they tell you the following:

I've been trying to find my son/daughter since we got separated escaping a refugee camp. I've tracked him/her so far, but I could really use some help.

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the survivor will start following you. When you arrive to the son's/daughter's location, he/she will be under attack by plague zombies. After you kill the zombies, a one-minute timer starts counting down. The son/daughter tells you that he/she has blood plague and turns soon, but thanks you for allowing he/she to see his/her parent once again before they die. After they reanimate killing them will end the mission and the parent leaves the area.

Note: You can save him/her if you happen to have a plague cure on you or if you can get one and administer it before the timer runs out. If you save the son/daughter, they will reward you with a Community Skill Textbook. The mission ends and the survivors leave the area.

Searching for a Child (D)

A survivor asks for help through the radio. As you arrive they tell you the following:

I've been trying to find my son/daughter since we got separated escaping a refugee camp. I've tracked him/her so far, but I could really use some help.

  • You can refuse to help, thus cancelling the mission without any reward, or
  • you can agree to help.

If you agree, the survivor will start following you. When you arrive to the son's/daughter's location, he/she will be under attack by zombies. After you kill the zombies, the parent will thank you for helping them saving their child. They reward you with a Community Skill Textbook and the survivors leave the area.
